Asian Hotels - Oriental touch

Mansion Hotel
"The Mansion Hotel once belonged to one of Shanghai's most notorious gangsters before the Communists took over in 1949. But since the colonial-era villa was transformed into a hotel in 2007, visitors can relive the glory days of Shanghai's yesteryear." (Businessweek) Love it!

Chiang Mai: Boutique Hotel 137 Pillars House Opens
137 Pillars House Chiangmai, Thailand

Built in 1889 to accommodate the manager of the British East Borneo Company, this residence has now been restored into a 30-suite boutique hotel. While the stately teak-wood building has retained its oriental elegance, the hotel delivers the level of comfort one would expect from a high-end establishment of its caliber. Elements reminiscent of days gone by such as tiled verandas, cane shades, rattan furniture, and free-standing Victorian baths are complemented by modern facilities such as flat screen televisions, wi-fi, and outdoor garden showers. Two of the hotel’s Louis Leonowens Suites feature private infinity pools.Rajah Brooke Suite Bathroom

Flavors of Morocco in Hua Hin- Villa Maroc

Villa Maroc

77220, Thailand
Tel: +66 32 630 771
Fax: +66 32 630 791

Set on the gulf of Thailand, Villa Maroc is just a 3 hour drive away from Bangkok. Tucked away in Pranburi, (20-30 min drive from Beach town Hua hin) this resort is my wishlist.

Location Attraction:
Namtok Pa La-uLocated in Kaeng Krachan National Park is a fantastic 11-tiered waterfall surrounded by dark, pristine forest. Visitors can easily get to the waterfall by local transportation from Hua Hin, 63 km away. Visitors can view each level of the waterfall by walking up a trail which runs parallel to the stream. The national park is home to an interesting variety of birds and butterflies, many of which are most visible between 7am and 10am.

Getaway: Khao Yai , Thailand

Each villa has a private pool villa facing the forest....

Bathroom is accessible via the living room and the master bedroom.

Each villa had its own private pool....right in the middle of a forest!
The Mist Bar at Kirimaya.
Khao Yai is a mountainous area, known for its great weather and greenery. It was a pleasant birthday surprise K gave to me. Thoroughly pampered! Possibly one of the most relaxing trip ever. There is just something about Khao Yai that makes you want to slow down and enjoy every bit of it. Images above: Kirimaya resort : Muthi Maya( pool villas)

A random artsy boutique hotel we spotted while searching for food.
A cafe/ vineyard/ restaurant in Khao Yai! We enjoyed some Italian flavors in Thailand. The owner of this vineyard loves Italy hence the idea of bringing some Italian flavors to Thailand. Made me want to return to Rome/ Florence.

Bamboo Element.

In Sag Harbor, New York, designer Michael Lee and friends Alex and Sue Glasscock converted an 1865 Second Empire?style town house from a triplex back to a single-family residence. The Glasscocks — he owns a private equity firm; she is an organic farmer — have been renovating houses with Lee for 14 years. A PAIR OF RARE CHINESE EXPORT "BRIGHTON PAVILION" ARMCHAIRS

What a handsome pair of horseshoe armchair. Meant for the export market and maybe that's why the height and size is slightly larger than the normal Chinese Horseshoe armchair.
Each with rounded back inset with open fretwork panels centered by the "wan" symbol; raised on straight legs joined by stretchers.

Colonial Sights in Singapore....

"A Sensitive Restoration Reinvigorates a Historic Colonial in the Heart of Singapore"

I have to say this is one of the finest examples left in Singapore. My first encounter of these colonial houses was when my mother took an alternative route home. Was i only 7 then? I can't recall but i know i was still very little and yet they remained quite vividly in my memory....

A pleasant surprise! This home has such a distinct flavor...! Asian Flavors....A long side black lacquered top Bamboo table adds so much character to this hallway!

More Bamboo pieces littered around the bedroom. I love how book shelves are paired.
What a pleasure...Always a good time with AD Photography by Russell MacMasters Jan 2007
It's my first posting and I hope you enjoy the blog from here forward.
